BENEDMO Training: Coding for digital investigations

📍Online | You will receive participation links after registrations are closed.

BENEDMO and Bellingcat are offering a free online introduction to coding for digital investigations. This two-day training equips journalists, fact-checkers, and other digital investigators with essential technical skills for data analysis and verification. No prior coding experience is required.

You can register by completing the form below. Registration is open until February 1st.

Day 1: Command line fundamentals
Discover free command line tools that operate without traditional user interfaces. You’ll learn how to find, evaluate, and safely use these tools in Google Colab, a secure cloud environment. We’ll explore how to integrate these tools into your investigative workflows.

📅 Wednesday 25 February – 2:00 – 4:30 pm (CET)

Day 2: AI-assisted coding for data analysis

Learn to write code with the support of Large Language Models (LLMs). This hands-on session focuses on developing foundational coding skills for data analysis tasks. You’ll gain enough autonomy to incorporate basic coding into your work and, if desired, continue learning independently beyond AI assistance.

📅 Thursday 26 February – 2:00 – 4:30 pm (CET)

Instructor of this training is Miguel Ramalho, Investigative Technologist for Bellingcat. Miguel uses data and code to investigate and communicate stories. He experiments and builds research tools with and for the online investigations community. Bellingcat is a partner of BENEDMO, a Flemish-Dutch collaboration to tackle disinformation.
